View from the top of the Giotto’s Bell Tower, The Campanile of the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, Italy, September 2015

Florence is one of those cities where someone could have sent my bags, and I could have just stayed forever. My second visit to the city in September 2015, for our 10th Wedding Anniversary, just solidified that fact for me. Matt said the vibe of the city reminded him of Cardiff, so I guess it makes sense.

On this trip we stayed within a few blocks of the Duomo, my favorite building in the world, and so of course made our way there several times. I refused to climb into the Duomo, because a few days earlier climbing into the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica gave me vertigo and made me sick. But I did agree to climb the 414 steps up Giotto’s Bell Tower. Why, I don’t really know. ;-p

The Campanile was designed by Giotto di Bondone, who was 67 when given the project and the first stone was laid in 1334, but wasn’t completed until 1359, years after his death. Its tri-color marble design (white, pink, and green) matches that of the Duomo.

The photo above was taken by Matt from the top of the Campanile.
