That time we visited a Star Wars location in Italy – Villa del Balbianello, Italy, September 19, 2015

So this picture cropped up on my Facebook timeline as a memory to revisit, and it felt like the appropriate pic of the day to share because of it.

Now, for those who don’t know us personally, you should know that we are huge entertainment media fans. Film, Television, etc. – we gobble it up like crazy. And Matt especially is a huge Star Wars fan (though at this point, he only acknowledges that the Original Trilogy exists).

Basically, we’re nerds. But hopefully not the scary kind. As long as you don’t mind us waxing poetic about the Marvel Cinematic Universe occasionally. Or every day.

Ahem.

We actually met in line for Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Los Angeles.

Anakin & Padme look out over Lake Como

So when our we decided to make our 10th Anniversary trip a 2.5 week tour of Italy, I was pretty insistent that it include a stop in the area of Lake Como. A location that is of course one of the most stunning parts of Italy (as if it isn’t all stunning), but which I must admit I heard of first because of the fact that the Villa del Balbianello (located in Tremezzina, one of the towns that skirt the Lake), was used as the location for filming on Attack of the Clones as the home of Queen Padme Amidala.

It’s a gorgeous location that just happens to have been used as a filming location for the movie to which we owe our marriage.

Um, yeah. We were going to make that trip.

My advice if you ever make your way to Villa del Balbianello? The price of admission of the grounds is a must, especially if you’re a film fan (the first Daniel Craig James Bond film, Casino Royale, was also filmed there). The views are stunning, and the grounds are beautiful. I wouldn’t bother with the interiors, however. Sadly, it was renovated in the 70s and all its old world charms are gone. It’s just gaudy 70s decorations now. Unless you’re into that sort of thing, in which case, you do you.
